Why hot lime mortar?
Breathable
It is breathable (vapour permeable), absorbing and evaporating moisture from surrounding masonry. This also helps to protect the masonry, there is less risk of salt and frost damage.
Flexible
It has a low modulus of elasticity. This means it is extremely flexible and allows for movement and thermal expansion.
Sympathetic
It is softer than modern cement, a softer mortar will not wear away the surrounding masonry over time. Bricks and stones are also reclaimed more easily if dismantled.
Environmental
It’s more eco-friendly, the lime manufacturing process produces less carbon dioxide than ordinary cement. Lime mortar re-absorbs carbon dioxide and further lowers the carbon footprint of the build.
Traditional techniques with historic precedent.
Attractive traditional appearance, pale in colour, natural limes tend to reveal the colour and characteristics of the building and are in-keeping with traditional building techniques.
Why Geocell flooring?
Low density and high compressive strength.
Despite the low bulk density, GEOCELL products are very pressure resistant.
Excellent thermal insulating properties.
The multi-cellular structure of GEOCELL provides very good Lambda values.
Excellent sound absorption.
GEOCELL expanded glass effectively absorbs noise.
100 % mineral.
GEOCELL is non-combustible and releases no harmful gases when heat is applied. GEOCELL is classified according DIN 4102 (DIN EN 13501-1) as construction material class A1 and suitable as fire extinguishing agent.
Spherical grain shape.
The spherical shape gives GEOCELL Bubbles special features like great free-flowing properties. The closed and rough surface, in combination with the spherical shape, provide very good adhesion to binders.
Healthy material.
GEOCELL is pure glass, inert, non-toxic, solvent-free, fiber-free, odour-neutral, anti-allergen, radiologically completely safe. The amorphous glass structure prevents the danger of silicosis.
Resistant.
GEOCELL is resistant to frost, heat, decay, ageing, bacteria, moisture, acids, organic solvents and provides no host for pests, rodents, nor mold growth. GEOCELL is perfectly suited for the combination with alkaline binders like lime, cement, water glass and other binders.
Long-term stability.
GEOCELL is dimensionally stable even after years (no material shrinkage, no swelling).
Environment friendly.
Using post-consumer recycled glass for the production of GEOCELL saves natural resources.
Just like glass.
GEOCELL is recyclable and supports a sustainable building.
Why lime pointing?
Soft and flexible
Lime mortar is soft and flexible so it won’t damage the delicate structure of any older buildings.
Eco-friendly
Traditional lime repointing methods reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions and they also prevent the need for extensive rebuilds. Demolishing and rebuilding a property generates huge amounts of energy, from both the building processes and the need to source new materials. Restoring a building using lime repointing is much more environmentally friendly as it preserves resources and uses far less energy.
Maintains the building’s original design
Many people want to preserve the original look of an older building and there are strict rules about this if the building is listed. Lime repointing uses traditional methods to ensure that the finished look is cohesive with the building’s original design.
Less risk of damp.
Lime mortar is much softer and more porous than cement. This means that moisture can evaporate more effectively, reducing the amount of overall moisture in the fabric of the building. Less moisture trapped within the building means a reduced risk of damp and it also decreases the likelihood of soluble salts appearing on the stone.
